VenaSeal™ Q & A

What is VenaSeal™?

The VenaSeal™ Closure System is a minimally invasive outpatient treatment for varicose veins. During the procedure, your provider at Advanced Vascular Solutions places a special medical adhesive inside your diseased vein, closing it off.

Once closed, your body reroutes blood through a healthier vein and the varicose vein disappears over time.

Am I a candidate for VenaSeal™?

The team at Advanced Vascular Solutions determines if you’re a candidate for VenaSeal™ treatment after a consultation. They may consider you a candidate if you have varicose veins that cause symptoms such as:

  • Itching
  • Fatigue
  • Burning
  • Leg pain
  • Tingling
  • Heaviness
  • Soreness
  • Throbbing
  • Cramping
  • Night cramps
  • Restless legs
  • Swollen legs
  • Discoloration of the skin around the veins

These symptoms may indicate you have a vein disease, which is a chronic and progressive condition that may increase your risk of developing venous ulcers. These nonhealing leg wounds may increase your risk of infection and limb amputation.

Early detection and treatment of vein disease may prevent venous ulcers and improve overall circulation.

To diagnose vein disease, the team at Advanced Vascular Solutions performs in-house ultrasounds. The noninvasive test evaluates circulation through your veins to look for signs of disease.

Only Medicare covers the cost of VenaSeal™ treatments for patients diagnosed with vein disease.

What happens during a VenaSeal™ procedure?

During your outpatient VenaSeal™ procedure, your provider fills a special syringe with the unique medical adhesive. Then, they attach the syringe to the VenaSeal™ catheter, which they insert through a small incision into your diseased vein using ultrasound-guided imaging.

Once in place, your provider injects the adhesive to close the vein, removes the catheter, and covers the incision with a bandage.

Your provider then sends you home. There’s no need for any downtime following your VenaSeal™ procedure.

What can I expect after VenaSeal™ treatment?

The team at Advanced Vascular Solutions likes the VenaSeal™ treatment because it causes less pain and bruising than other varicose vein treatments. You can also expect a faster recovery, and there’s no need to wear compression stockings after treatment.
